DIY Gift Idea: Green Cleaning Recipe Book

I had to wait until after Christmas to post about one of the gifts that I made. It was my most favorite gift to give and it was for my sister-in-law!  UPDATE- Scroll to the bottom of this post to view the recipes that I used!

Knowing that she incorporates green living into her life, I knew I wanted to get her something that was practical and green.   I have been making most of my own cleaners for my house for a while now but always end up forgetting what recipes I followed to make my concoctions. I figured my sis-in-law probably ran into the same problem. So I decided to make an eco-consious cleaning recipe book for her. Here’s what I came up with:

I used brown craft card stock, manilla envelopes, 3 1/2 x 4″ labels, and a metal round binding ring.  I printed each recipe onto a label and placed the labels on the card stock squares.

The book has three sections; kitchen, bathroom, and around the house. The manilla envelopes were used to separate the 3 sections.

I designed a simple cover for the book using photoshop. I also bought a bucket and filled it with baking soda, vinegar, corn starch, spray bottles, and some other items to help her get started.

I was soo excited to give this to my sister-in-law, but once we flew into West Virginia for Christmas, I realized I had left it at home. I was furious at myself.

In spite of that, my SIL was happy to receive her gift via the US postal service a few days later.

Happy Tuesday!

  1. this is great, do you have the recipes you used? I’m making a similar kit for my SIL as a bridal shower gift, and I want to make her a recipe book too. Thanks!
